Being in a brick and mortar retail business for over 35 years, I was often frustrated when it came to advertising. Whether is was direct mailings, newspapers, magazines or radio I never felt anything really worked well for the high cost involved in each campaign. The only true advertising that I thought worked well was word of mouth. That is one of the reasons I gave away coupons to those who recommended me to their friends and family.

The downside was with all the people moving away, or for one reason or another, no longer needing my services, I was often left with fewer customers than I wanted. How about the new neighbors that still don’t know any locals to recommend me?  How can they find out about my business? Most retail businesses are located on main roads that get hundreds, thousands and even tens of thousands of people driving by each day. So, you say, I’ll put up a sign so everyone knows that I’m here. Does that really work? All of these people drive by each and every day and after awhile, your sign is as obscure as a street sign.

On my way to work each day I noticed a scrolling red LED message board.  It was seeing this sign that made me realize I needed MY own LED Message Board for my business. That was way back in 2001. I got that sign after a fight with the township. (I’ll post another story about township zoning code) That sign is still working today for a new owner, still bringing in customers and letting people know about specials and anything else that owner wants to tell them.  That sign has brought in more business than any other forms of advertising combined.

LED Message Boards have come a long way since then. Full color, close pixels for great images, cloud based software, easy to use software. They work night and day, 365 days a year to promote small businesses and let people know what that business wants to tell them. Best yet, because the messages constantly change, people can’t help but look at them to see what’s new.

I sold that retail business and now I make other retail business owners happy with their new Electronic LED Message Board sign. Bottom line, I love my job now. Showing business owner how to keep the customers rolling in!!
